Dr McGrath is a graduate of Umass Amherst and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Following an internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston he opened McGrath Animal Hospital in 1976. Dr McGrath enjoys doing mostly general surgery and dentistry. |

Ann M. Bruce D.V.M.
Dr Bruce started work at MAH in 1990 following graduation from Kansas State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She is a general practitioner with a large loyal clientele. |

Dr. Ira C. Kaplan
Dr. Ira C. Kaplan, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduated summa cum laude from The Ohio State University College of Agriculture in 1973. He simultaneously earned a Masters in Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. Dr. Kaplan moved to Billerica one week after graduation to become a staff veterinarian at McGrath Animal Hospital and currently serves as co-Director of the hospital.
Dr. Kaplan’s special medical interests include dermatology and endocrine diseases. Dr. Kaplan is a well known presence in the world of purebred dogs. He has been a respected breeder and handler of Bullmastiffs in breed and obedience competitions for over 20 years. He is one of only six individuals in Bullmastiff history, to earn both the title of Utility Dog and Champion, with his dog, Luke.
Since 1986, Dr. Kaplan has volunteered, as an advocate of the disabled, with the National Education for Assistance Dog Services (NEADS) located in Princeton, Massachusetts. Currently, he is Clerk of the Board of Directors and Veterinary Medical Advisor for the over 600 dogs assisting deaf or disabled Americans. McGrath Animal Hospital is the facility where potential assistance dogs are screened for genetic diseases and cleared for work with the disabled.
Dr. Kaplan is an avid tennis player and enjoys playing the tenor banjo. He shares his life with his wife of 31 years, 4 Champion (dual-titled) dogs, one cat, Zippy, and a 4 foot long red tail catfish, SNARF. |
